What You Need to Know About Mold Insurance Coverage

Mold is a type of fungi that can grow both indoors and outdoors in warm, moist environments. It can cause a variety of health problems, including respiratory infections, allergic reactions, and skin irritation.

If you have mold in your home or business, you may be wondering if your insurance will cover the cost of removal and repairs. The answer to this question depends on the type of insurance you have and the cause of the mold growth.

Most standard homeowners insurance policies will not cover mold damage. This is because mold is typically considered to be a preventable problem. In order to have your mold damage covered by insurance, you will need to purchase a separate mold insurance policy or add mold coverage to your existing policy.

Mold insurance coverage typically pays for the cost of mold removal and repairs up to a certain limit. The limit is usually set at $10,000 to $50,000. If the cost of mold removal and repairs exceeds this limit, you will be responsible for paying the difference out of your own pocket.

Mold insurance coverage may also pay for the cost of temporary housing if you need to move out of your home while the mold is being removed.

If you have mold in your home or business, contact your insurance agent to find out if you have mold insurance coverage.
