Understanding the Different Classes of Water Damage

Water damage is classified according to the water’s source. The three main categories of water damage are clean water, gray water, and black water.

Clean water is from a sanitary source, such as a broken water line or a faucet. Gray water is from a source that may contain contaminants, such as a washing machine or toilet. Black water is from a sewage source or floodwater and is the most contaminated.

Water damage can cause a number of problems, such as mold growth, wood rot, and metal corrosion. It is important to act quickly to remove the water and dry the area to prevent further damage.

If you have water damage, it is important to understand the different classes so you can take the proper steps to clean and repair your home.
