Understanding Tennessee’s Public Assistance Program for Disaster Recovery

In the aftermath of a disaster, many survivors face significant challenges in rebuilding their homes and their lives. Fortunately, the state of Tennessee offers a public assistance program to help with disaster recovery.

To be eligible for assistance, survivors must first apply to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for Individual Assistance. If approved, they will then be referred to the Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) for public assistance.

The public assistance program provides financial and technical assistance to eligible survivors to help with the costs of rebuilding. Assistance is available for a wide range of needs, including debris removal, emergency protective measures, and repairs to damaged homes and infrastructure.

To learn more about the public assistance program and how to apply, survivors can visit the DHS website or call the DHS Disaster Recovery Division at 1-888-865-9903.
