The Importance of Disaster Preparedness for Tennessee’s Seniors

As our state’s population continues to age, it’s more important than ever for Tennessee’s seniors to be prepared for disasters. Disasters can strike at any time, and often without warning. That’s why it’s so important to have a plan in place ahead of time.

There are a few things that every senior should do to be prepared for a disaster. First, you should have an emergency kit on hand. This should include enough food and water for at least three days, a first-aid kit, a flashlight, and a battery-operated radio. You should also make sure to have copies of important documents, like your driver’s license, Social Security card, and birth certificate, in a safe place.

It’s also a good idea to have an emergency plan. This should include a list of emergency contacts, as well as a designated meeting place in case you’re separated from your family or friends. You should also make sure to keep your cell phone charged and keep a list of important phone numbers in a safe place.

Tennessee’s seniors are some of our most vulnerable citizens, and it’s important that we do everything we can to help them be prepared for disasters. By following these simple tips, you can help make sure that you’re ready for anything.
