The Connection Between Indoor Air Quality and Mold Growth

Mold is a type of fungus that can grow both indoors and outdoors. It is often found in damp or wet areas, such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and laundry rooms. Mold can also grow on clothing, furniture, and other household items.

Mold spores are present in the air both indoors and outdoors. When mold spores land on a wet or damp surface, they can start to grow. Mold needs four things to grow: moisture, a food source, warm temperatures, and oxygen.

There are many different types of mold, and some can cause health problems. People with mold allergies may have sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and skin rash. People with asthma or other respiratory problems may have more severe reactions.

You can help prevent mold growth in your home by controlling moisture and humidity. Use a dehumidifier in damp areas, such as the basement. Fix any leaks in the roof, walls, or plumbing. Use an exhaust fan when cooking or showering. Dry wet areas, such as around sinks and showers, as soon as possible.

You should also clean and repair moldy areas. Mold can be removed from hard surfaces, such as countertops and floors, with soap and water. You can also use a solution of bleach and water. Moldy items, such as clothing and furniture, can usually be cleaned. If they can’t be cleaned, throw them away.

If you think you have a mold problem, contact a professional mold remediation company. They can test your home for mold and remove it.
