Tennessee Flood Recovery: Steps to Restore Your Home and Property

The 2019 Tennessee floods were some of the worst in recent memory. Many homeowners were left with extensive damage to their homes and property. If you’re one of the lucky ones who escaped relatively unscathed, you may still be dealing with some water damage. Here are some steps you can take to restore your home and property back to normal.

1. Start by assessing the damage. Take a look around your home and property and make a list of all the damage. Be sure to include any structural damage, like water-logged drywall or weakened supports, as well as any cosmetic damage, like peeling paint or ruined carpeting.

2. Contact your insurance company. Once you have a list of the damage, call your insurance company and start a claim. They will likely send an adjuster to assess the damage and give you an estimate of what they will cover.

3. Make repairs. Once you have your insurance settlement, you can start making repairs. If you have any structural damage, it’s important to get it fixed as soon as possible to avoid any further damage. For cosmetic damage, you can start making repairs or replacements as soon as you have the funds.

4. Clean up. Even if you don’t have any damage, it’s a good idea to give your home a good cleaning after a flood. This will help get rid of any mold or mildew that may have started to grow.

5. Take precautions. Once your home is repaired, there are some things you can do to help prevent future flood damage. These include installing flood barriers and getting flood insurance.

If you’ve been affected by the Tennessee floods, don’t despair. With some time and effort, you can get your home and property back to normal.
