How to Salvage Your Belongings After a Disaster

When a disaster strikes, the first thing you should do is assess the damage to your home and belongings. If your home is safe to enter, do so carefully. If it’s not safe, don’t go in. Once you’re inside, open windows and doors to air out the place and start the drying process. If you have electricity, use fans to circulate the air. If you don’t have electricity, prop open doors and windows with sticks or whatever you can find.

The next step is to start salvaging your belongings. If they’re wet, try to dry them out as much as possible. If they’re covered in mud or debris, gently clean them off. If they’re damaged beyond repair, sadly, you’ll have to throw them away.

Once you’ve salvaged what you can, it’s time to start the long process of cleaning and repairing your home. This will be a daunting task, but you can do it.
