How to Respond to a Fire in Your Home

In the event of a fire in your home, it is important to remain calm and take action quickly. The first step is to call 911 to report the fire. If you are able, try to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. If the fire is too large or you are unable to extinguish it, evacuate the premises immediately. Once you are outside, do not re-enter the building until the fire has been extinguished and it is safe to do so.

If you or someone you know is injured, seek medical attention immediately. If you are unable to return to your home, contact your local Red Cross chapter for assistance.
