How to Respond to a Fire in Your Home

When a fire starts in your home, it is important to act quickly and decisively. Every second counts when it comes to getting everyone out safely and preventing further damage. Here is a step-by-step guide to what you should do if a fire starts in your home:

1. Get everyone out of the house immediately. This is the most important thing to do. Get your family and pets out first, and then worry about saving your belongings.

2. Call 911 from a safe location. Once everyone is out of the house, call 911 and let them know what is happening.

3. Try to extinguish the fire if it is small and you have the proper training and equipment. If the fire is large or spreading quickly, do not try to put it out yourself. Leave that to the professionals.

4. Prevent the spread of smoke. Smoke can be just as dangerous as the fire itself, so it is important to try to keep it from spreading. Close doors and windows to contain the smoke, and use a wet towel or sheet to block any cracks or openings.

5. Stay safe. Once you are out of the house, do not go back inside for any reason. Let the professionals handle it.
