How to Prevent Fire Damage During the Holidays

As the holidays approach, many of us are busy decorating our homes and preparing for parties. But it’s important to remember that holiday decorations can be a fire hazard. According to the National Fire Protection Association, Christmas trees alone are responsible for an average of 210 home structure fires each year. But there are some simple steps you can take to prevent fire damage during the holidays:

1. Inspect your holiday lights each year. Throw out any light strands that are frayed or have broken sockets.

2. Use battery-operated candles instead of real candles.

3. Keep your Christmas tree well-watered. A dry tree is a major fire hazard.

4. Keep flammable decorations away from heat sources like fireplaces, space heaters, and candles.

5. Never leave lit candles unattended.

6. Make sure your smoke alarms are working.

By following these simple tips, you can help prevent fire damage during the holidays.
