How to Prevent Fire Damage During the Holidays

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and fun. But they’re also a time when home fires increase. According to the National Fire Protection Association, December is the peak month for home candle fires. And almost half of all home decoration fires happen in the week leading up to Christmas.

There are some simple steps you can take to help prevent fire damage during the holidays:

1. Use battery-operated candles instead of real candles.

2. Make sure your Christmas tree is fresh, not dried out.

3. Keep your tree away from heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, and TV sets.

4. Don’t overload electrical outlets with holiday lights and decorations.

5. Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children.

6. Never leave candles or fires unattended.

7. Have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home.

By following these simple tips, you can help make sure your holidays are safe and fire-free.
