How to Maintain a Healthy Indoor Environment

Assuming you would like an article discussing how to maintain a healthy indoor environment:

Indoor air quality is often two to five times worse than outdoor air quality, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. There are many things you can do to improve the quality of your indoor air and create a healthier environment for yourself and your family.

Start with the basics:

Keep your home clean and uncluttered. Dust mites, mold, and other allergens love to hide in clutter. A clean home is a healthy home.

Vacuum regularly and use a damp cloth to dust surfaces. Be sure to clean under furniture and in other areas that collect dust.

Change your air filters. Most homes have forced-air heating and cooling systems. These systems rely on filters to remove dust, pollen, and other allergens from the air. Check your filter monthly and change it when it’s dirty.

Get rid of mold and mildew. These can cause serious health problems, especially for people with asthma or allergies. If you see mold or mildew, clean it immediately with a solution of bleach and water.

Open your windows. Ventilate your home to get rid of stale air. When weather permits, open your windows and doors to let in fresh air.

Use natural cleaners. Many commercial cleaners contain harmful chemicals. Look for natural alternatives or make your own.

Bring plants into your home. Plants help purify the air by removing carbon dioxide and other pollutants.

There are many things you can do to create a healthy indoor environment for your family. By following these tips, you can improve your indoor air quality and breathe easier.
