Handling Smoke Damage in Electronics

When a fire is extinguished, the smoke it leaves behind can cause extensive damage to electronics. The soot and chemicals in smoke can corrode metal and etch into glass and plastic. If not cleaned properly, this damage can cause your electronics to fail prematurely.

To clean your electronics after a fire, start by unplugging them and removing any batteries. Next, use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to gently remove soot from the surface of your electronics. If the vacuum doesn’t remove all the soot, you can try wiping the surface with a damp, soft cloth. Be sure to avoid getting any water inside your electronics.

Once you’ve removed the soot, you can clean the surface of your electronics with a mild cleaning solution. Be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning to avoid damaging your electronics.

If your electronics have been damaged by smoke, it’s important to have them repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Smoke damage can cause your electronics to fail prematurely, so it’s important to get them fixed as soon as possible.
