Homeowners need to be aware of fire safety and how to prevent fires in their homes. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

•Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace batteries as needed.
•Create and practice a home fire escape plan.
• Keep flammable and combustible materials away from your home’s heating sources.
• Don’t overload electrical outlets and extension cords.
• Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children.
• Never leave burning candles unattended.
• Inspect your home’s heating system and chimney regularly.
• Store combustible liquids like gasoline only in approved containers outside of your home.
