Fire Safety Tips for Homeowners

As a homeowner, you have a lot of responsibility when it comes to keeping your family safe. One of the most important things you can do is to make sure your home is safe from fire. Here are some tips to help you keep your home safe from fire:

1. Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and in every bedroom. Test them monthly and make sure everyone in your family knows how to respond when they go off.

2. Create a home fire escape plan and practice it with your family. Make sure everyone knows two ways to get out of every room in the event of a fire.

3. Keep flammable items like lighters and matches out of reach of children. Store them in a high, locked cabinet.

4. Never leave candles unattended. Blow them out before you leave the room or go to bed.

5. Don’t overload electrical outlets and never use extension cords with appliances.

6. Keep the area around your furnace and water heater clear of clutter.

7. Don’t use your oven to heat your home.

8. Keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and know how to use it.

9. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually.

10. If you smoke, smoke outside. Never smoke in bed.

By following these tips, you can help keep your home safe from fire.
