Fire Safety Tips for Homeowners

As a homeowner, you have a lot of responsibility when it comes to keeping your family safe. One of the most important things you can do is to make sure your home is safe from fire. Here are some tips to help you keep your home safe from fire:

-Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and in every bedroom. Test them monthly and make sure everyone in your family knows how to respond when they go off.

-Create a home fire escape plan and practice it with your family.

-Keep flammable items like lighters and matches out of reach of children.

-Never leave candles unattended and make sure they are extinguished before going to bed.

-Don’t overload electrical outlets and never use extension cords with appliances.

-Keep your stove and oven clean and free of grease build-up.

-Never leave cooking food unattended.

-Keep space heaters away from flammable items and turn them off when you leave the room.

-Have your chimney cleaned and inspected annually.

-Don’t burn trash or leaves in your fireplace.

-Make sure your home insurance policy is up to date and covers fire damage.
