Asbestos Awareness in Disaster Restoration

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can be found in rock and soil. When these materials are disturbed, asbestos fibers can be released into the air and inhaled. Asbestos exposure has been linked to a number of serious health conditions, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.

Disaster restoration professionals may come into contact with asbestos during the course of their work. It is important to be aware of the dangers of asbestos exposure and take steps to protect yourself and others.

There are a few things you can do to reduce your risk of exposure to asbestos:

-Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator.

-Avoid disturbing asbestos-containing materials.

-Wet down asbestos-containing materials before disturbing them.

-Dispose of asbestos-containing materials properly.

If you suspect that you have been exposed to asbestos, it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible. Early detection and treatment of asbestos-related diseases can improve your chances of a successful outcome.
